The founder James Mercer was an early pioneer in freeze drying and holder of many freeze drying patents. Mercer is privately owned and operated and has the distinction of being a women owned business.

Mercer Foods is in the Central California community of Modesto. It is strategically located; being close to major transportation hubs for trucking and rail as well as the Port of Oakland for container ships.
