Here at Mercer Foods, we’ve spent the last 37 years perfecting freeze-drying from process to ingredients and more. Our standards are very high and we never cut corners. This includes maintaining and updating our safety, sanitation, and health programs. It’s no surprise that we maintain our plant to focus on quality in every aspect of what we do — we respect our customers and clients, as well as the fruits and vegetables we use.
Consumers today are very educated about what they are feeding themselves and their families, including pets. They are looking for traceability and origin, relying on trusted brands to meet their expectations. These expectations move down the food chain from retailers to service providers to suppliers needing to show proof that strong safety control is in place. Led by the Safe Quality Food Institute, the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program properly validates and presents continuous monitoring. Working alongside the many codes of the SQF Institute, it essentially provides a certification for every single link in the food chain.
The SQF Certification Program
The SQF Program is divided into two user groups: code 1000 for primary producers and code 2000, mainly for food manufacturers. There are three levels of certification for the SQF standard.
- Level 1: Low risk products and basic food safety
- Level 2: Certified Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety plan
- Level 3: Includes Level 2 and a comprehensive implementation of safety and quality management systems
Mercer’s Programs and Certifications
Mercer is proud to be SQF 2000 Level 3 certified, indicating we have made considerable investment in our extensive food safety and quality management systems. We have systems in place that monitor any hazards (physical, chemical, and biological) through the entire production lifecycle. All of our products are regularly tested and in compliance with all allergen programs, and our standard operating procedures include the highest of sanitation throughout our facilities. In 2016, Mercer Foods scored an “Excellent” audit rating from the SQF Institute.
We continue to be compliant with all standards and regulations set forth by the FDA, USDA, and OSHA.
In addition to being SQF 2000 Level 3 certified, we are also certified for client requests of using Oregon Tilth Certified Organic product, as well as Kosher Certification Service (OU).
