If any fruit is having its time in the spotlight, it’s the mango! People can’t get enough of this exotic, flavorful fruit.
Mangoes are the most widely consumed fruit in the world and were first grown in India more than 5,000 years ago. The fruit was the inspiration for the modern paisley pattern, and a basket of mangoes is also considered a gesture of friendship. But, most importantly for our purposes, mangoes are natural nutritional powerhouses. And since freeze-drying keeps more nutrients intact in fruits and vegetables than any other preservation method, we decided to take a look at our favorite things about freeze-dried mangoes.
The distinct, intense flavor of mango is easily harnessed in the freeze-drying process. We don’t add any flavor enhancers, sulfites, or sugar to preserve the taste. It’s only the pure taste of mango. If you didn’t know better, you might think you were tasting fresh fruit!
2. Snackability and versatility
Preparing a fresh mango to snack on is an art unto itself. The awkward shape and large, slippery pit can make a juicy mess, and leave much of the irresistible flesh wasted. Freeze-dried mangoes eliminate the frustration of opening a mango while being easy and convenient. The shelf-stable format works on its own, or in a tropical fusion with fruits such as pineapple, peaches, and coconut. Mangoes are an incredibly versatile fruit. It easily incorporates into nutrition bars, hot and cold cereals, and even savory packaged meals and dishes.
Mangoes boast more than 20 different vitamins and minerals and are especially high in vitamins C, A, and B6. This true super fruit is also a good source of fiber and folate. Mangoes are also naturally fat-free, sodium free, and cholesterol free.
